Lunar Calender - 5th May - Duan Wu Jie

In Lunar Calendar, 5th May is the dumpling festival. Dumpling festival also known as dragon boat festival. In this festival, chinese comunity organize dragon boat races and eat dumplings, or 'zong zi'.

This festival has a story behind it. Long time ago, in China, the patriotic poet Qu Yuan threw himself in to the Milo River to protest against injustice and corruption in China. Some villagers want to protect Qu Yuan's body from eaten by the fishes in the river, they threw rice and beat drum to chase the fishes away. This is the why every chinese family will make 'zong zi' on fifth day of fifth month of lunar calendar.

Nowadays, most of the youngest do not know how to make a dumpling. The dumplings, or 'zongzi', is a little packets of sticky rice wrapped up in bamboo leaves.

These are the ingredients to make the dumplings:

rice, leave and meat

we need to wrap the rice and meat with the bamboo leaves. Then, we have to cook it with boiling water.

This is how the final dumpling looks like:

In market, there got many types of dumplings. In Melaka, there has nyonya dumplings, Hainan dumplings, sweet dumpling, etc.

Pulau Redang

wah, last week is a fantastic week.

since 2003, i haven't been take a long holiday in other state/place as vacation. Last week, I went to Pulau Redang, Terengganu with my hubby, my sister and her boyfriend, my auntie's family.

This is the first time I went to this island. This is the most beautiful island i ever seen. When i show the pictures that i taken to my friends, they are surprised that Malaysia has this wonderful and beautiful place they never had in their mind.

We went to the place by a tourist bus. We depart from Johor at 10pm and reach Terengganu at 6.45am.

This is the first place we reached at Terengganu.

Now, let me show you the pictures in Pulau Redang.

At here, the can see the really blue and clear sea, blue sky and white sand.

I'm not lucky as my family members, I fall in sick when I reach Redang Island. Therefore, I took some photos when they were snorkling in the water.

They were snorkeling happily at the seaside, but i was sitting under the tree and oberving them.

The sea water is clear until you can see the small fishes having their gathering near the seaside.

I must go to this place again in next year. The place is so beautiful. According to the beach boy there, the peak season is on mid year school holiday which is around April to June. The time we went is in end of May. I think this is the time that we can see many peoples and have a good scenery there. This island is closed of operation from October to end of February because of the wind and waves. All the resorts in Pulau Redang provide reasonable package which included snorkling sections and 4 meals in buffet style at reasonable price.

This is the sun rise scenary in Pulau Redang. If got chance to go, I'll go to this place again.

Hope you all enjoy these pictures.
